The School of Medicine and its Office of Belonging, Equity, and Empowerment (BEE) strive to highlight the efforts and achievements in our community that support diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Toward that end, we are gathering nominations for recognition during multiple commemorative months throughout the year, which offer us the opportunities to celebrate the diverse accomplishments of the School of Medicine's community members. These months include:
- Black History Month (February)
- Women's History Month (March)
- Middle Eastern & North African (MENA) Heritage Month (April)
- Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month (May)
- LGBTQ+ Pride Month (June)
- Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 - October 15)
- Native American Heritage Month (November)
We ask that you please nominate an SOM colleague (student, faculty, staff, resident/fellow), organization, event, or historical figure that has contributed to the advancement of these respective communities in medicine and the health sciences. We strive to celebrate and amplify accomplishments in areas including but not limited to: mentorship, clinical care, professional service, and academic research.
At this time, we are only seeking nominations for Black History Month 2025. The Office of BEE staff members will review all current nominations and select a small group of the most outstanding nominees for distinction as part of the School of Medicine's public statement in celebration of the month. An individual can submit as many nominations as they wish; however, the form only allows for one nomination submission at a time. Self nominations are also welcomed.
